JESUS FULFILLS OT PROPHECIES
OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES FULFILLED IN JESUS CHRIST
Luke 24:27 “Then beginning with MOSES and with ALL THE PROPHETS, He explained to them the things concerning HIMSELF in ALL THE SCRIPTURES.”
Moses and all the Prophets refers to the OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES. When Jesus said “ALL THE SCRIPTURES” He was talking of the OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES.
The NEW TESTAMENT still had to be written by the Apostles.
Luke 24:30-31 “When He had reclined at the table with them, He TOOK the BREAD and BLESSED it, and BREAKING it, He began giving it to them. Then their eyes were opened and THEY RECOGNIZED HIM; and He vanished from their sight.”
Now just think of the scenes in the picture above and below and meditate on it for while. These two scenes ALWAYS bring me to tears from JOY and AMAZEMENT.
In both pictures JESUS, THE SON OF GOD and THE SON OF MAN, was walking with these two disciples, talking with these two disciples and breaking bread with these two disciples, who had followed Him for the last two years or so and didn’t recognize Him, even not after He explained from the Scriptures ALL about Himself. Not until He began breaking the bread THEIR EYES WERE OPENED. Just think about it for a few moments, GOD the CREATOR Himself was walking with them, talking with them and breaking bread with them! What moments of pure bliss, what amazing memories to cherish for ever, what privilege they had and all that time Jesus, the SON OF GOD. was declaring the FATHER to them as He walked on the earth as the SON OF MAN.
THEY RECOGNIZED HIM IN THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
This is a beautiful and blessed study which will give the student a deeper and clearer understanding of God’s plan and of Jesus Christ the Saviour/Messiah.
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT: Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; HE SHALL BRUISE YOU ON THE HEAD, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT: Hebrews 2:14 “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that THROUGH DEATH HE MIGHT RENDER POWERLESS him who had the power of death, that is, THE DEVIL.
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT: Genesis 12:3 “And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. AND IN YOU ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH WILL BE BLESSED.”
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT: Acts 3:25-26 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘AND IN YOUR SEED ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED. For you first, GOD RAISED UP HIS SERVANT AND SENT HIM TO BLESS YOU by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
Galatians 3:16 “Now the promises were spoken to ABRAHAM AND TO HIS SEED. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “AND TO YOUR SEED,” THAT IS, CHRIST.”
Matthew 1:1 “The record of the genealogy of THE MESSIAH, the son of David, the SON OF ABRAHAM:”
Matthew1:1-17 “The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah. Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa. Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah. Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah. Josiah became the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. After the deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor. Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud. Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.”
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT: Exodus 17:6 “Behold, I will stand before you there on the ROCK at Horeb; and you shall strike the ROCK, and WATER will come out of it, that the people may DRINK.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT: John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a DRINK,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you LIVING WATER.”
1 Corinthians 10:4 “and all DRANK the same SPIRITUAL DRINK, for they were DRINKING from a SPIRITUAL ROCK which followed them; and the ROCK WAS CHRIST.”
John 4:25 “The woman said to Him, “I know that MESSIAH is coming (HE WHO IS CALLED CHRIST); when that ONE comes, HE will declare all things to us.”
JESUS SAID TO HER "I WHO SPEAK TO YOU AM HE"
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE LIVING WATER
John 7:38 “He who BELIEVES IN ME, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of LIVING WATER.’”
John 7:39 But this He spoke of the SPIRIT, whom those who BELIEVED IN HIM were to RECEIVE; for the SPIRIT was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT: Jacob prophesied Judah would rule over his brothers. Jesus the king is from the tribe of Judah.
Genesis 49: 9-10 “Judah is a LION’S WHELP; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he lies down as a LION, And as a LION, who dares rouse him up? The SCEPTER shall not depart from JUDAH, Nor the ruler’s staff from between His feet Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.” JESUS is the LION OF JUDAH
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT: Matthew starts his Gospel with the genealogy of Jesus and in the second verse he already has Jesus as a descendant of JUDAH.
Matthew1:1-2 The record of the genealogy of JESUS the MESSIAH, the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of JUDAH and his brothers.”
Luke goes on to say that Jesus will sit on the THRONE of DAVID
Luke 1:31-33 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him JESUS. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the THRONE of His father David; and He will REIGN over the HOUSE OF JACOB, and His KINGDOM will have NO END.”
Revelation 5:5 “and one of the elders *said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the LION that is FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH, the ROOT OF DAVID, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”
Jesus, the Lion of Judah, the Lamb of God is the ONLY One worthy to open the sealed book.
Revelation 5:6-7 “And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a LAMB standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. And He came and TOOK THE BOOK out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.”
At His birth Jesus became the SON OF MAN, as a direct descendant of the tribe of JUDAH He was also the LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH and as He, in obedience to the Father’s will, offered Himself to be the PERFECT SACRIFICE for the sins of those that BELIEVE in Him, He also became the LAMB OF GOD.
The Jews were not to keep the Passover lamb overnight.
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT:
Exodus 12:10 “‘And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.”
Numbers 9:12 “They shall leave none of it until morning, NOR BREAK A BONE of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it.
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT: John 19:38-42 “After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight. So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the tomb was nearby, THEY LAID JESUS THERE“
The Passover lamb had to be without any fault.
Jesus was the PERFECT Passover Lamb, without any blemish.
John 19:33 “but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did NOT break His legs.”
The Jews had to eat ALL of the lamb on the night of the Passover. NOTHING was allowed to be left over till the morning.
Jesus gave His ALL and was buried in the tomb of the rich man.
The blood of the Passover lamb on the lintels and doorpost of their houses would keep them safe from the destroyer executing God’s judgements during the night.
The Blood of Jesus keeps believers safe from the Judgements of God.
PROPHECY IN OLD TESTAMENT:
Exodus 25:8-9 “Let them construct a SANCTUARY for Me, that I may DWELL AMONG THEM. According to all that I am going to show you, as the pattern of the TABERNACLE and the pattern of all its furniture, just so you shall construct it.“
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with CHILD and bear a SON, and she will call His name IMMANUEL ( GOD WITH US.)
Isaiah 8:10 “Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us. (IMMANUEL)”
Thus God would be TABERNACLING among the people of Israel.
FULFILLMENT IN NEW TESTAMENT:
The Body of Jesus was the TABERNACLE in which GOD the WORD would dwell (TABERNACLE) among men.
When Jesus ascended into heaven, the CHURCH, the BODY of Jesus Christ, is the TABERNACLE in which GOD, the HOLY TRINITY, dwells among men until the RAPTURE takes place.
Matthew 1:21-23 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.”
