AL HAVE SINNED

Through Adam all mankind have inherited a sinful nature!

When God created Adam and Eve He created them in His image, meaning, He made them in a way that reflects Who He is. As God is spirit they didn’t reflect Him physically, but mentally and morally as they were innocent. They were created with a body (Latin word is SOMA), a soul (Latin word is PSYCHE) and a spirit (Latin word is PNEUMA).

1 Thessalonians 5:23 confirms this. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you ENTIRELY; and may your SPIRIT and SOUL and BODY be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

In this state they were in a wonderful bliss and relationship (communion) with God., Who would come to them in the cool of the day Genesis 3:8. God planted all sorts of trees that were good to look at (we love trees) and good for food. From this we know Adam and Eve must have eaten from these trees.

Now lets look at how God created Adam

1. Body – SOMA – Carnal.

Here God gave us the five senses: Sight – Smell – Hearing – Taste – Touch through with we could experience the world around us.

2. Soul – PSYCHE – Natural.

Here God allows us to process the sensations we experienced through our senses by way of Imagination – Conscience – Memory – Reason – Affection.

3. Spirit – PNEUMA – Spiritual.

Here God allows us to make good decisions through spiritual insight guided by the Holy Spirit.

Sin was not yet in sight and the spirit of man was in communion with the Spirit of God.

God gave Adam a command in Genesis 2:16-17 “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

After God gave Eve to Adam as a helper. They were both naked and were not ashamed as sin had not yet marred their spiritual insight to make good decisions.

Genesis 2:24-25 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”
Here we firstly see that God only instituted one marriage  and that is between a man and his wife. We also see that Adam and Eve were married as verse 25 clearly says “And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed”.
They were not ashamed of their nakedness because their soul had not been affected by the effects of sin as they were spiritually still alive and in communion with God. The moment Adam and Eve sinned they died spiritually and their communion with God was cut off. Their soul was now effected by the effects of sin as they received the knowledge of good and evil. Lust of the flesh started to effect them.
Adam’s act of disobedience was the first sin and the consequence was that all mankind to come was now effected by the curse of this sin and born spiritually dead. The other consequence was that physical death would now effect mankind as well in due course.

Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as through ONE MAN sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because ALL SINNED—”

We know what God most desires from man and that is OBEDIENCE.

Romans 5:19 “For as through the one man’s DISOBEDIENCE the many were made SINNERS, even so through the OBEDIENCE of the One the many will be made RIGHTEOUS.”

Adam was DISOBEDIENT and sinned causing all his offspring to be sinners as well, as they inherited Adam’s sinful nature.

Jesus was OBEDIENT to the Father’s will when He gave His life as the perfect sacrifice for SIN.

Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, AND HE ATE.”

Here was Adam’s act of DISOBEDIENT and we know the results.

Genesis 3:7 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked;”

Their conscience was now exposed to the darkness of sin. Their lives would now be influenced by their sinful nature and not by their spiritual nature,  influenced by the Holy Spirit.

Compare this with Luke 24:31 “Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.” These were the two disciples on the road to Emmaus and Jesus caught up with them and told them all about Himself  from the Scriptures.

When they were sharing bread they recognized it was the risen Lord

Here their eyes were OPENED because their minds and conscience were exposed to the LIGHT of the WORD which is Jesus Christ.

Eve’s consequences for her sin of disobedience was not only spiritual death and in due course physical death, but also as God told her in Genesis 3:16 To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children;”.

Adam’s consequences for his sin of disobedience was not only spiritual death and in due course physical death, but also as God said to him in Genesis 3:17-19 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’;Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

Genesis 6:12 “God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.”

Ecclesiastes 7:20 “Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.”

Psalm 14:3 “They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.”

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned”

Romans 10:13 (quoting Joel 2:32) for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”

EVERYONE HAS SINNED AND IS ON THE WAY TO THE LAKE OF FIRE

As Paul says in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”.  He also wrote that the wages of sin is death. Because of our inherited sinful nature every person deserves nothing but punishment for their sins.

God is a very loving God, full of mercy and grace and doesn’t want anybody to go to the Lake of Fire!

He LOVES us.

Although there is nothing in us that exempts us from the  punishment for our sins, God, out of the abundance of His grace, offered us a WAY to avoiding the journey to the Lake of Fire. A WAY of Salvation. That WAY is Jesus Christ His beloved Son, Whom He sent into the world to be the PERFECT SACRIFICE to atone for our sins.
